About the Artist
Bahar Ghonsul is an Iranian-American contemporary visual artist whose work explores color, geometry, and emotion. Influenced by Suprematism and geometric abstraction, her paintings are defined by bold colors, unexpected combinations, and carefully arranged geometric shapes. Drawing from personal experiences, memories, and her surroundings, she creates compositions that capture the feeling of a place or moment rather than its literal representation.
A self-taught artist, Bahar began painting in 2010 as a form of personal expression. What started as an emotional outlet gradually evolved into a deeper exploration of color and composition. Her approach combines intuition with experimentation, using geometric shapes, contrasting colors, and spatial relationships to create a sense of movement, tension, and balance. Each painting develops through a process of discovery, where colors and shapes come together to reflect a particular mood, memory, or experience.
Born in Iran and raised in the United States, Bahar holds degrees in Political Science and Middle East Studies. Her professional background in human rights and women's rights advocacy has shaped the way she observes and interprets the world. These experiences have influenced her artistic perspective, particularly her interest in the complexities of human emotion, identity, and the environments that shape our experiences.
Inspired by the places she has lived and visited, Bahar draws on architecture, landscapes, cultural influences, and everyday moments to create abstract interpretations of her surroundings. Rather than depicting these places as they appear, she focuses on the emotions and impressions they leave behind. Through her work, she seeks to express what cannot always be put into words, inviting viewers to bring their own memories, perspectives, and emotional connections to each painting.
